  1. Hi Everyone:
Hope all of you had a great week.  Today, I am writing this blog from the tropical state of Florida.  It is so beautiful here.  So peaceful and relaxing. That leads me to my topic for the week,  Lavender.  Now, you are probably wondering what lavender has to do with Florida. Well, lavender is good for stress and relaxing. That is one reason why we use lavender essential oil in several of the Gwen's Blends product line.
Lavender essential oil has many health benefits:
    1.      Reduces mental stress and anxiety.
    2.      Helpful in treatment of hair loss.
    3.      Enhance blood circulation.
    4.      Helps induce sleep.
    5.      Beneficial in the treatment of acme.
    6.      Disinfects the scalp and skin.
    7.      Relieves Pain
    8.      Aids in digestion.
I could list more, but I think you get the point.  We use lavender essential oil in our skin care, (Body Glo Cream,  Anti.-oxidant Serum) hair care (shampoo, conditioner, hair lotion, hair whip)
and bath & beauty products (Lavender-Lemonade soap, Bath Bombs). The essential oil is the last ingredient added to the product, unless it is unscented.  The essential oil used depends on the benefits of the product.
We use several different essential oils, but lavender is one of our favorites.  In future blogs, I will discuss the benefits of other essential oils used in our products.
Please email any questions you may have about this blog or Gwen’s Blends products.
    Until next week, stay Healthy.
  2. Well, I'm back.  Please be patient while I figure out how to start this blog.  I started it a year ago, and never kept it up.  Now I plan on blogging at least once a month.  Who knows, maybe more often then that. Do you want to know why Gwen's Blends was started?  Gwen's Blends was created out of a need and desire for a healthier lifestyle for myself and 2 daughters.  I was good at buying the right foods to eat, but I never thought about the products I was using on myself or children.  I never thought about the damaging chemicals I was putting into our bodies.  Did you know that your skin is your largest organ? Well, when you use soap, lotion, hair products, etc., if you are not using natural products, most likely you are putting chemicals, alcohol, and parabens in your body.  Your skin actually absorbs some of these chemicals into your bloodstream.  That is unacceptable.  That is why in 2009, Gwen's Blends was launched, natural, handmade, healthy, skin care, hair care, bath & beauty, and pet care products.  We pride ourselves in using food grade ingredients (oatmeal, cinnamon, olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, aloe vera, shea butter, etc) and natural preservatives(citric acid, potassium sorbate) in order to make HEALTHY BLENDS

The first product made was Caramel Oatmeal Soap.  My daughters and I used it, friends and family used it.  We were all amazed at the difference between store bought soap (with chemicals in it), and natural soap. What a difference.

Before I tell you the difference between the 2 soaps, let me tell you where the nane came from.  Caramel is the color of the soap, and it has oatmeal in it.  As for the difference, the Gwen's Blends Caramel Oatmeal Soap, exfoliates, moisturizes, helps with skin problems such as eczema, great lather, fresh scent, no chemicals, parabens or alcohol, cleans, helps get rid of spots on skin, and many other benefits.

The Caramel Oatmeal Soap is made of extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, shea butter, and oatmeal.  It is unscented, except for the natural scents of the ingredients.

That's it for now.  Please email any comments you may have.

  3. Well summer is finally here, and now is the time to start getting out of the house and enjoying nature.  Summer is the time for picnics, vacations, and cookouts.   But also with summer, comes the bugs, hot weather, and stress from being so active.  That is why, when summer rolls around, I start a whole new regiment.  The first thing I do, is start my day off with a healthy smoothie for breakfast.  My favorite is spinach, banana, and coconut milk.  I need that Vitamin K and potassium.  Potassium from the banana's helps with muscle cramps, and the vitamin k from the spinach helps with the dark circles under my eyes.  After having my smoothie, I exercise.   Exercising helps my energy level and alleviates some of my stress.  Then, I shower, and start preparing my skin for that hot summer weather.  It is importatnt to moisturize your skin every day.  Of course, I use the Body Glo Cream, Body Glo Lotion, or Antioxidant Serum.  I like all of them, so I use all of them.  I usually moisturize with the Body Glo Cream or lotion.  I use the Smoothing face cream for my face, and use the Antioxidant Serum as a pre shave-after-shave lotion.  All of them help fight the free radicals and protect my skin against the sun. What are you doing to protect your skin against the summer forces?
